Galway SC warming up well for the summer Nationals!
The NAC Open long course meet hosted by the NAC swim team at the National Aquatic Centre was a last opportunity for swimmers to warm up for the summer national meets giving the team valuable long course competition practice in preparation for the challenges ahead.
In the first event of the meet the boys Open 400 Freestyle, Galway SC made it a 1, 2, 3 with David O’Sullivan (1st), Conor Smyth (2nd), Bryan O’Sullivan (3rd) & in the girls Open 400 Freestyle, Kate Finn finished first.
In the second event the 100 Backstroke, Max Kolcow placed first in the U10 age-group, Bryan O’Sullivan finished 1st/U14 &Conor Snowdon 2nd place. In the girls 100 Backstroke, Sophie Moran finished 1st/U10, Ciara Shaughnessy 3rd/U12, Niamh Melody 1st/U14, Kate Kavanagh 3rd/U14 & Kristiana Hristeva 3rd/ U16.
In the boys 200 Freestyle Max Kolcow finished 2nd/U10, Joseph Doorly 3rd/U12, Andrew Moore 1st/U14, David O’Sullivan 1st/U16 & Conor Smyth 2nd/U16. In the girls, there were top three podium places for Sophie Moran 2nd/U10, Ciara Shaughnessy 3rd/U12, Kate Finn 1st/U14 & Alex McFarland 2nd/U14.
In the fourth event of the meet the100 Butterfly, there were podium places for Conor Snowdon 3rd/U14, Eve Quane 3rd/U10, Emer Claffey 1st/U14 & Niamh Melody 2nd/U14.
In the Open 50 Freestyle, Kevin McGlade comfortably won the boys event in a solid 24.80.
The sixth event of the meet the 200 Breaststroke brought podium finishes in the boy’s category for Andrew Moore 1st/U14, Thomas O’Connor 3rd/U14 & Richard Murphy 1st/U16 & in the girl’s category for Sinead Walsh 1st/U12 & Andraya Scully 3rd/U14.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Max Kolcow won his 3rd gold medal of the meet winning the U10 boys category, Bryan O’Sullivan finished 1st/U14, Andrew Moore 2nd/U14, Richard Murphy 2nd/U16 & David O’Sullivan 1st/U16. In the girls 200IM, Sophie Moran finished 1st /U10 & Emer Claffey 3rd/U14.
In the 100 Breaststroke, there were podium places for Richard Murphy 1st/U16, Kevin McGlade 1st/Open, Eve Quane 3rd/U10, Sinead Walsh 1st/U12, Lauren Walsh 3rd/U12 & Alex McFarland 2rd/U14.
In the Open 50 Butterfly, Rachel Moore put in a strong finish placing 3rd in the girl’s category.
In the 200 Backstroke, Max Kolcow made it 4 gold’s winning the boys U10 category, Sophie Moran made it 3 individual gold’s winning the U10 girl’s category, Ciara Shaughnessy finished 2nd/U12, Kate Finn 2nd/U14 & Kristiana Hristeva placed 1st in the U16 category.
In the 100 Freestyle, there were podium places in the boy’s category for Max Kolcow 1st/U10, Andrew Moore 1st/U14, Conor Snowdon 2nd/U14, David O’Sullivan 1st/U16, Kevin McGlade 1st/Open & in the girl’s category for Sophie Moran 3rd/U10, Kate Finn 1st/U14 & Alex McFarland 2nd/U14.
In the 200 Butterfly, there were podium finishes for Bryan O’Sullivan 1st/U14, Daniel Scully 2nd/U14 & in the girl’s category for Molly O’Sullivan who finished 2nd/U14.
In the last event of the meet, Tim Keogh in his first long course 1500 Freestyle put in a brave effort in the event finishing 7th in the Open category.
The NAC meet proved a very worthwhile & positive experience for all those GSC swimmers who competed, & bodes well in the team’s preparations for the summer nationals & Galway SC would like to extend sincere thanks to the team managers, Owen Doorly & Beverley McGrogan & team coaches Ger Keogh & Brendan Breathnach for their professional & supporting work for the team throughout a very demanding but rewarding day.
