Superb Division 2 Irish Age-Groups for GSC swimmers
Galway SC would like to congratulate all the competing Division 2 swimmers on their fantastic achievements over a very successful weekend of swimming in UL from 28th-30th June.
They achieved 24 podium positions including eight gold medals, fifteen silver and one bronze.
The GSC team had a fantastic meet, competing superbly and achieving an 85% PB return rate and a 100% racing time improvement rate from heats to finals.
There were also six new Division 1 age group qualifiers who qualified to swim in 10 events. Congratulations to Cillian Blacoe, U13, 100m and 200m backstroke, Emma Kennelly, U10, in 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, Isabelle Gibbs, U12, 100m and 200m backstroke, Alannah Blacoe, U12, 200m backstroke, Nell Madhi, U12, 200m IM and Zak Rather, U11, 100m butterfly.
There were two overall winners at the event. Well done to Emma Kennelly who finished 1st overall in the U10 girls racing and to Nell Madhi who won the overall award for U12 girls.
Superb swimming from GSC in Limerick allowed our swimmers to win eight gold medals with Emma Kennelly leading the U10 girls with three great wins in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle. Nell Madhi added two golds with great performances in the 200m and 400m IM, Zak Rather took gold in his 400IM race for the U11 boys, while Isabelle Gibbs made her top podium place in the U12 200m backstroke event and Kristiana Hristeva won gold in the U18 100m backstroke.
Zak Rather, Emma Kennelly and Kristiana Hristeva continued their winning form with return trips to the podium for more medals. Zak swam to two silver medal finishes in the 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle races, while Emma came second in the 100m breaststroke, and the 200m and 400m freestyle events. Adding to her gold medal, Kristiana came second in the 100 breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke events. U 12 swimmer Madeline Mitchell claimed her silver medal in the 200m butterfly event.
In the U11 boys category, Rory Melody added to GSC’s medals with a third place finish in the 200m backstroke event.
GSC would like to extend it’s warmest congratulations to all the GSC division 2 swimmers who competed with such great distinction. Many thanks to the team managers Deirdre Melody, Jennifer Cunningham, Rosemary Blacoe, Yvonne Gibbs and Terese Gavin for their excellent manager support to the team and lastly, to team coach Ger Keogh who gave fantastic coaching support and direction to the swimmers over a very busy but successful Division 2 competition.
