Galway SC swimmers finish off the B/C series in style
With 47PB’s on the day, GSC’s younger swimmers closed their swimming season in style at the Laser B/C Gala, which was held at the Kingfisher in NUIG on Saturday 15th June.
Our swimmers did not disappoint on the day with nine A times achieved at NUIG.
Congratulations to our U11 girls Ailbhe Mulhall who got an A time in the 100m backstroke, Alison Walsh who got two A times in the 100m backstroke and 100m IM and Jennifer Holland who made her A time in the 100m IM.
There was also A time success for the U11 boys with Cillian Jordan and John Morrison each getting two A times, in the 100m backstroke and 100m IM. There was also an A time for David Doorly in the 100m IM.
In the B Grade podiums, there was racing success for Lucy Kavanagh who came second in the U11 100m backstroke and Orla Gallagher who came second in the U13 age group.
GSC’s U11 boys made it a hat trick in the 100m backstroke event with Eoin O’Malley taking 1st place, Aaron Burke winning silver and Dominic Matei coming in third. There was further reward for the U13 boys in the same event, with Jake Begley winning a silver and Dominic Cahill winning bronze.
In the 100m breaststroke, the U11 boys were on winning form, with Evan O’Boyle swimming to a first place finish, with Eoin O’Malley coming in second and David Doorly taking bronze.
Lauren McKnight took the gold in the U13 girls 100m breaststroke event while Tom O’Sullivan had a superb swim finishing 1st in the 100m IM while Evan O’Boyle finished 2nd in the B grade U11 100 IM category behind Tom.
In the C grade podiums, U11 girls Grace Kavanagh and Chloe Heffernan swim to 2nd and third place finishes in the 100m breaststroke while Harry Walsh took bronze for the U11 boys in the same event.
Gavin Dempsey claimed third place in the U11 boys 100m IM event while Dominic Cahill swam to a silver medal finish in the 200m IM in the U13 boys category.
In the last events of the night, there was even more success for GSC with three gold and two silver medal wins for the 4X50 Freestyle relay teams.

Congratulations to the Galway B Team of Harry Walsh, Eoin O’Malley, Evan O’Boyle and Liam Melody who claimed silver
There was gold for the Galway U13 girls team of Lucy Kavanagh, Orla Gallagher, Laurn McKnight and Caoimhe Conneely while the U13 boys B team of Aaron Burke, Gavin Dempsey, Dominic Cahill and Jack Begley also had a winning silver medal finish at the gala.
