The Longford A Grade 400’s prove a worthy trip!
The last of the Connacht A Grade competitions of the season was held on Sunday 6th May in Longford, hosting the 400 Freestyle & Individual Medley events.
This proved to be a worthy trip for the competing Galway SC swimmers who put in an excellent shift at the meet, achieving 12 PB’ s, nine top 3 podium places & 1 Div. 1 qualification time.
In the 400IM, Niamh Melody finished 1st in the U13 girls age-group with Andraya Scully finishing 3rd & Molly O’Sullivan finishing 4th in PB times. In the U15 girls 400IM age-group, Emer Claffey finished 1st & in the Open girls category, Kristiana Hristeva finished 1st & both girls knocked 15 seconds off their PB times in the process! In the boys 400IM category, Time Keogh finished 1st in the boys U11 age-group in a 10 second PB & in the U13 boys age-group, David O’Connor had a creditable first time swim in the 400IM.
In the second event of the meet the 400 Freestyle, there was more success for the GSC travelling team.
In the girls U13 age-group, Niamh Melody, Andraya Scully & Molly O’Sullivan all achieved PB times in the event, with Andraya getting her Division One National Age-Group time cut, making the event a double success-well done Andraya! In the U15 age-group, Emer Claffey finished 2nd in a PB time & in the Open category, Kristiana Hristeva finished 3rd.
In the boys 400 Freestyle, Tim Keogh finished 3rd & a PB in the U11 age-group, David O’Connor did a 4 second PB in the U13 age-group & Daniel Scully finished in 3rd place in the U15 age-group with a 5 second PB time.
This concluded another success A Grade series for the GSC team & the club would just like to extend sincere thanks to the team staff of Youth coach, Brendan Breathnach & Team Manager Trish O’Sullivan who gave positive support & direction to the swimmers whilst at the competition in Longford.
