Strong performance from GSC at Athlone A Grade Gala
The Athlone A grade gala, which was held on Sunday 30th March, was a very positive meet for all the attending swimmers with some excellent individual performances across the board.
The GSC team achieved 59 PBs with 19 places on the top three podium during the day.
Congratulations to Grace Kavanagh who qualified for Division 2 in her U10 100m backstroke.
Sophie Moran started off in fine form with two gold medal wins in the U13 100m backstroke and the 400 IM event. There was also a gold medal for Allanah Blacoe who took to the podium for the U11 400IM.
Max Kolcow and Emma Kennelly added a raft of silver medals with silver medal swims for Max in the U13 100m fly, backstroke and freestyle events. Emma won silver in the 100m freestyle and butterfly and the 400IM in the U11 age group events. Fionn Duffy won silver in the U13 400IM event and Isabelle Gibbs took to the podium for a silver medal in the U11 100m backstroke.
Fionn Duffy, Roisin Finn and Tom O’Sullivan all swam to a bronze medal finish in the 100m fly while Max Kolcow added to his medals with a third place win in the 400IM.
David Doorly took home a bronze for his U11 400 IM event. There were further medals for Allanah Blacoe in the 100m backstroke and Isabelle Gibbs in the 400IM and 100m breastroke events.
This brought to a close a very successful A Grade meet and GSC would like to extend sincere thanks to team Coach Pearse McGuigan and team managers Tracy Mulhall and Oonagh Walsh for their support to the team during the competition.
