Storming Finish to the end of the season for G.S.C Swimmers at the Irish D2’s
The Irish National D2’s took place in the University Arena, Limerick from Thursday 5thJuly – Sunday 8thJuly with Galway SC being represented by 18 swimmers, who had a storming meet at this year’s event.
Day 1
The first day of the meet started of superbly with GSC swimmers achieving multiple PB, final & podium places.
Leading the performances, Martin Mitchell won Gold in the U13 Boys 200 Freestyle & Sasha McAleer won Gold in the U12 Boys 400IM. Silver podium places were achieved by Michael Hussey in the U12/Boys 100Backstroke, Gillian Murphy in the U12/400IM & Katie Waters U13/400IM, while bronze podiums places were achieved by Michael Hussey in the 200 Freestyle & Rosie Doorly in the U13/400IM.
Excellent finalist swims were achieved by Sasha McAleer (U12/100 Backstroke), William McDonnell (U14/100 Backstroke) & Eimear O’Leary & Rosie Doorly (U13/200 Freestyle), while PB swims were achieved by John Patten (U13/100 Backstroke 200 Freestyle), Cillian McCullagh (U12/100 Backstroke), Ciara Davitt (U12/200 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke), Gillian Murphy (U12/200 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke), Katie Waters (U13/200 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke) & Kassie Rather (U12/100 Backstroke).
Day 2
After the sublime start for GSC swimmers on Day 1 of the meet, Day 2 produced another fantastic day of racing for the team.
Leading the performances, Maria Nic Dhonnacha won Gold in the U14 Girls 1500 Freestyle in a new PB time. Silver podium places were achieved by Paola O’Brien (Open Girls/50 Butterfly) & Gillian Murphy (U12/100 Breaststroke), while bronze podiums places were achieved by Michael Hussey in the (U12/100 Freestyle) & the Girls U14 4X50 Freestyle relay made up of Caitriona Nic Dhonnchadha, Eimear O’Leary, Rosie Doorly & Maria NicDhonnacha brought a brilliant end to the day with a bronze podium last stroke winning finish in a very exciting race with four other Irish teams.
Excellent finalist swims were achieved by Martin Mitchell (U13/100 Freestyle) & Katie Waters (U13/100 Breaststroke), while PB swims were achieved by Sasha McAleer (U12/1500 Freestyle), Ciara Davitt (U12/100 Breaststroke) & Maria NicDhonnacha (U13/100 Breaststroke).
Day 3
Half-way through the meet & GSC swimmers didn’t slow up with brilliant personal & team performances at the D2’s.
Leading the performances, silver podiums places were achieved by Eimear O’Leary (U13/400 Freestyle), Sasha McAleer (U12/400 Freestyle & 200 Backstroke), Martin Mitchell (U13/400 Freestyle) & John Patten (U13/50 Freestyle). Bronze podium finishes were achieved by Rosie Doorly (U13/400 Freestyle), Michael Hussey (U12/400 Freestyle & 200 Backstroke), John Patten (U13/400 Freestyle) & William McDonnell (U14/200 Backstroke), while the Girls U14 Medley relay made up of Caitriona Nic Dhonnchadha, Gillian Murphy, Katie Waters & Maria NicDhonnacha won Gold in a fantastic close finish with 6 other teams.
Superb finalist swims were achieved by Ciara Davitt (U12/200 Backstroke), Katie Waters (U13/200 Backstroke), Caitriona NicDhonnchadha (U14/200 Backstroke), Eimear O’Leary (U13/50 Freestyle), Paola O’Brien (Open/100 Butterfly), Michael Hussey (U12/50 Freestyle), U14 Boys 4X50 Medley relay (William McDonnell, John Patten, Michael Hussey, Martin Mitchell), while PB swims were achieved by Kassie Rather (U12/50 Free), Rosie Doorly (U13/50 Free), Maria NicDhonnacha (U14/50 Free & 400 Freestyle), Paola O’Brien (Open/50 Free), Cillian McCullagh (U12/400 Free & 200 Backstroke), John Patten (U13/200 Backstroke), Ciara Davitt (U12/400 Freestyle), Gillian Murphy (U12/400 Freestyle), Martin Mitchell (U13/50 Freestyle) & Caitriona NicDhonnchadha (U14/400 Freestyle)
Day 4
The last day of the D2’s brought even more success for the GSC swimmers who looked to finish off the meet on a continued high!
Leading the performances, Sasha McAleer achieved gold podium success in the Boys U12/800 Freestyle in a new PB time. Silver podium places were achieved by Gillian Murphy (U12/200 Breaststroke), Katie Waters (U13/200 Breaststroke), while bronze podium finishes were achieved by Maria NicDhonnacha (U14/800 Freestyle).
Superb finalist swims were achieved by Sasha McAleer (U12/200IM), John Patten (U13/200IM), Katie Waters (U13/200IM), Paola O’Brien (Open/50 Backstroke) & the U14 4X50 Mixed Medley relay made up of William McDonnell, Gillian Murphy, Katie Waters & John Patten, while PB swims were achieved by Michael Hussey (U12/200IM), Cillian McCullagh (U12/200IM), Ciara Davitt (U12/200 Breaststroke), Kassie Rather (U12/200 Breaststroke), Maria NicDhonnacha (U14/200 Breaststroke), Gillian Murphy (U12/200IM), Kassie Rather (U12/200IM), Rosie Doorly (U13/200IM),
This concluded an amazing end of season meet for all the GSC swimmers who amassed an impressive 5 Golds, 11 Silvers, 11 bronzes, 18 finalists & 75 PB’s.
