Positive GSC performances at Leinster championships
As the final warm up meet before the LC Nationals at the end of April, the team acquitted themselves well at the Leinster LC championships which were held on 22nd and 23rd March at the NAC.
Performing positively throughout the two days with some progressive racing in multiple events, GSC swimmers gained valuable long course competition experience.
With 17 swimmers representing the club, there were 43 PBs and 22 top three podium places were achieved with club swimmers making 23 A finals.
Congratulations to Bryan O’Sullivan who broke two Connacht Records (1 senior and 1 junior) in his 200m backstroke event where he claimed a silver medal.
GSC claimed several gold medals in the backstroke events with Bryan O’Sullivan taking home a gold medal in the 50m backstroke, Cian Duffy won gold in the 100m back and Kate Kavanagh claimed her gold medal in the same event.
There was a further gold for Cian Duffy in the 200m fly, a gold for Andrew Moore in the 400m freestyle, while Daniel Scully swam to a gold medal finish in the 1500m freestyle.
Bryan and Cian returned to the podium with success for Bryan, with a silver medal in the 200m freestyle while Cian took silver in both the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Keena Walsh claimed two silvers in the 100m breaststroke and 200 IM while Sarah Jane Fox visited the podium for a silver in the 100m fly. Niamh Melody completed the medal tally with a silver medal finish in the 50m back.
There were eight bronze medals for the club with Bryan O’Sullivan and Ruth Keogh taking bronze in the 100m backstroke, while Kate Kavanagh and Kate Finn won bronze in the 50m backstroke. Kate Kavanagh won a further bronze in the 200m backstroke event. Sarah Jane Fox took to the podium for her 50m fly while Andrew Moore added to his medal tally with a bronze in the 50m free and Mitchell Wilson claimed bronze in the 200 IM event.
