Meet Report: GSC success at Castlebar A Grade
The first A grade Gala of the season, held in Castlebar, was a successful first meet of the season for GSC swimmers with super individual performances from the travelling team. The GSC team achieved 34 PB’s at the event, which took place on 6th October.
GSC swimmers competing in the three events scheduled – the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 400m freestyle set the pace for the day which resulted in 12 top three podium finishes by the team.
Zak Rather and Alannah Blacoe took gold in the 400m freestyle event, with Zak claiming a second gold in the 100m backstroke event and Isabelle Gibbs taking gold in the same event for the U11 girls.
The 400m freestyle gave GSC swimmers the chance to take to the podium again with silver medal finishes for Max Kolcow in the U13 boys event, while Keela Mulhall claimed her gold medal in the U11 girls category. Zak Rather claimed a third medal in the U11 100m breaststroke while Max Kolcow claimed his second silver in the U13 boys 100m backstroke event. Sophie Moran added to the silver medal tally with a silver medal podium finish in the U13 100m backstroke girls event.
A further two medals went to the GSC team with bronze medal finishes for Cillian Blacoe in the U13 boys 100m backstroke event while Jennifer Holland swam to a third place finish in the U11 girls 100m breaststroke.
The performances in Castlebar marked an excellent start to the season and Galway SC would like to thank team coach Pearse McGuigan and team managers Tracy Mulhall and Sara Kennelly who supported the team superbly during the day.
