GSC swimmers step it up at the Connacht Age Groups
The Connacht Age Groups meet, held in Limerick on 4th and 5th of May, was a superb meet for our GSC swimmers.
With positive performances from the competing team, they achieved 75 PBs, 54 podium places, six new national age group qualifying times (two for Division 2 and four for Division 1) and two National Squad standard times by Sophie Moran.
There were 14 golds, 22 silvers and 18 bronze medals won over the weekend.
Making her two National Youth Squad times with gold medal finishes in the 200m back and 400m free events, Sophie Moran also won gold in the 100m backstroke event and silver medals in the 800 free, the 200 IM and the 200 free (U12).
Nell Mahdi took gold in the 400IM and 800m free, Fionn Duffy in the 200m fly, Daniel Scully in the 1,500m free, Sinead Walsh in the 200m breast, and Lauren Walsh in the 800m free.
The GSC relay teams also took to the podium for a gold medal in both the medley and freestyle relays, with the U12 boys team of Max Kolcow, Tim Keogh, Fionn Duffy and Joseph Doorly.
There was a further gold for the U12 girls medley relay team of Roisin Finn, Sophie Moran, Aisling Kennelly and Lauren Walsh. And the freestyle relay team of Sophie Moran, Sinead Walsh, Roisin Finn and Lauren Walsh did not disappoint with a gold medal finish in the U12 event.
Max Kolcow led the charge in the silver medal category, with four silver medal podium finishes in the 200m back, 100m free and 100m and 200m fly events. Tim Keogh took silver in both the 200IM and the 200m breast, while Daniel Scully swam to a silver medal finish in the 200m back.
Sinead Walsh won silver in the 10m0 breast and there were further silver medals for Lauren Walsh in the 400m free and 200m breast, Zak Rather and Allanah Blacoe in the 400m IM, Kristiana Hristeva in the 400mIM, Fionn Duffy in the 10m0 back, Joseph Doorly in the 200m and 400m free, Thomas O’Connor in the 400m and 800m free and Roisin Finn in the 100m fly.
There were further successes for GSC with 18 bronze medal wins, with Lauren Walsh taking three bronze medals in the 100m breast, 200m IM and 200m free events. Roisin Finn in the 400m free and 100m free, Max Kolcow in the 200m IM and the 200m Free, Daniel Scully in the 200m IM and 200 free, Conor Snowdon in the 100m back and 100m fly, Joseph Doorly in the 200m back, Ruby Murphy in the 400m IM, Thomas O’Connor in the 1,500 free, Darragh Hanrahan in the 200m breast, Andraya Scully in the 200m breast, Tim Keogh in the 400m free and Zak Rather in the 100m fly.
Congratulations to Rory Melody, Tom Scully, Madeleine Mitchell and Nell Madhi who all made Division 2 qualifying times.
And congratulations to Anna O’Donoghue, Keela Mulhall and Darragh Hanrahan who qualified for Division 1 during the meet.
