GSC swimmers shine at B/C Gala
The fourth B/C gala of the season was an excellent meet for the junior swimmers of Galway SC with multiple A grade times and PBs achieved on the night.
Hosted by GSC at the NUIG Kingfisher on the 5th April, four of GSC’s younger swimmers gained A times on the night with strong and exciting relay performances to end the gala.
Congratulations to Ava O’Donovan, Alison Gibbs, Aaron Burke and Dominic Matei who made their A times in the U11 100m backstroke events of the night. Ava also made an A time in the U11 girls breaststroke event.
GSC stepped up to the B grade podium ten times on the night with a host of strong performances.
There were 1st place finishes for Georgia Megahey in the U11 100m backstroke, Ailbhe Mulhall and Ben Naughton in the U11 100m breaststroke and Jack Silke in the U13 100m breaststroke events.
In the U13 boys 100m backstroke event there was a second place finish for Tom Kavanagh with Eoin O’Malley taking third. Rachel Dempsey claimed second place in the U11 100m breaststroke with Harry Walsh swimming to a third place finish in the U11 boys event. Eoin O’Malley was on the podium again for his third place finish in the U13 boys 100m breaststroke event.
Seven GSC swimmers made the C grade podiums, with congratulations going to Darren Murphy for his first place finish in the U11 100m backstroke event while Alex Naughton claimed first place in the U11 100 breaststroke race.
Mark O’Connor and Tiernan Conneely came second and third in the U11 boys backstroke event while Caoimhe Conneely and Jack Silke came third in the boys and girls U13 100m backstroke category. Finally, there was a second place finish for Dominic Matei in the U11 boys 100m breaststroke event.
The final events of the night were the mixed freestyle relays which were an exciting end to the night.
Congratulations to the U11 GSC ‘D’ team of Ben Naughton, Rachel Dempsey, Emma Murphy and Harry Walsh who came in second in their event.
There was a second silver medal finish for GSC with the U13 ‘A’ team of Eoin O’Malley, Caoimhe Conneely, Roisin Vaughan and Tom Kavanagh while the U11 ‘B’ team of Gavin Dempsey, Ailbhe Mulhall, Andrea Shaughnessy and Eamonn Gallagher swam to a third place finish.
There was further success for GSC with a further third place finish from the U13 ‘B’ team of Alan Shaughnessy, Eimear Walsh, Ellen Kennedy and Jack Silke.
This concluded a very successful night for all the swimmers from the club and GSC would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the gala a big success.
