Meet Report: GSC success at B/C Grade competition
GSC’s younger swimmers had a very positive meet at the Bluefin Gala, the third B/C gala of the season, which was held in the Kingfisher, NUIG on the 8th February with multiple PB’s achieved on the night.
GSC’s junior swimmers made four A times with super performances from Harry Walsh and Alex Naughton in the U11 200IM, while Lucy Kavanagh made an A time in the U13 girls event. Alibhe Mulhall gained her A time in the U11 girls 50m butterfly.
In the B grade category, there were fantastic swims and podium place finishes starting with the 200IM with a first place finish for Mark O’Connor in the U11 boys category. Dominic Cahill came 1st in the U13 age group while Alan Shaughnessy took second place in the same event.
In the 50m butterfly race, Orla Gallagher swam to a first place finish in the U13 girls event while Ava O’Donovan came 3rd in the U11 age group race. In the 100m fly event, there was a 1st place finish for Jack Silke in the U13 boys category.
In the 100m freestyle, both Dominic Matai and Ava O’Donovan came in second in the U11 boys and girls racing while Dominic Cahill came 1st in the U13 boys age group.
The C winners making the grade at the meet were in fine form, with a first place finish for Lily Kavanagh in the U11 girls 50m butterfly, with second place finishes for Chloe Heffernan and Theo Morvian in the U13 100m butterfly event while Eimear Walsh came third in the same event.
There was more success for Chloe Heffernan in the 100m freestyle where she came in third in the U13 race, with Alan Shaughnessy taking second place in the boys event. Mark O’Connor claimed third in the U11 age group
This brought to an end a superb evening of racing and GSC would like to extend sincere thanks to the team managers of Therese Power and Frank Mitchell and the team coaches Gwen Ryan, Kevin McGlade and Amanda Mooney for their excellent work and support on the night.
