GSC feature strongly at the NAC long course Open
The NAC Open meet, held on Sunday 8th June, was the last long course racing opportunity for GSC swimmers before the Irish Age/Youth & Open Championships in July and the meet produced some fantastic performances and confidence boosting swims in preparation for the summer.
With 50 PBs, the club also brought home 50 medals, 25 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze.
Meanwhile, Nell Madhi and Madeleine Mitchell qualified for the Irish age Groups, Nell in the U14 400m freestyle and Madeleine in the U12 200IM – while the club also has two new Connacht Squad qualifiers – Isabelle Gibbs in the U13 100m backstroke and Roisin Finn in the U13 100m freestyle.
The first medals of the day came during the second event at the meet, the 200m butterfly. There was gold for Fionn Duffy in the U14 age group and silver for Max Kolcow in the U12 racing.
In the second event the 100m Backstroke, Andrew Moore and Kate Kavanagh claimed gold in the U16 age group and Sophie Moran took gold in the U12 racing. There was silver for Conor Snowdon (U16), Cillian Blacoe (U14) and Isabelle Gibbs (U12). Kristiana Hristeva won bronze in the open racing while Rory Melody claimed a bronze in the U12 boys age group.
Sophie and Max added to the medals with two golds in the 100m butterfly, there was gold for Bryan O’Sullivan and Sarah Jane Fox in the U16 age group with silvers for Kate Finn (U16), Roisin Finn (U14) and Keela Mulhall (U12) and bronze for Fionn Duffy (U14). Sarah Jane also won gold in the 50m fly event.
There was gold for Andrew Moore and Kate Finn in the 50m free while GSC picked up a further three golds in the 200IM event, from Niall McCarra and Kristiana Hristeva in the Open category and Keela Mulhall (U12). Bryan O’Sullivan (U16) claimed silver in the same event while Zak Rather and Isabelle Gibbs both claimed bronze in the U12 racing & Zak also won bronze in the u12 boys 200 Breaststroke.
In the 17th and 18th events of the day, the 200m freestyle, there were golds for Andrew Moore and Kate Finn (U16), Max Kolcow and Keela Mullhall (U12). There was silver from Niall McCarra in the Open event and Kate Kavanagh (U16).
Fionn Duffy claimed his second gold in the U14 100m breaststroke, while Madeleine Mitchell & Max Kolcow won bronzes in the U12 category.
Andrew Moore (U16) added his fourth gold of the day in the 200m backstroke, Kristiana Hristeva won gold in the open event, while Max Kolcow and Sophie Moran won gold in the U12 age category. There was silver for Isabelle Gibbs (U12) and a bronze for Rory Melody (U12).
In the 100m freestyle, there was gold for Kate Finn (U16), silver for Conor Snowdon (U16) and two bronze medals for Sarah Jane Fox (U16) and Roisin Finn (U14).
In one of the last events of the day, Bryan O’Sullivan (U16) claimed a final gold for Galway with a win in the 1,500m freestyle.
