Galway SC start season with fine performances at Shark B/C Gala
The Shark B/C gala on 20th October proved to be a very successful meet for all the budding young Galway SC swimmers of the future!
A fantastic 66 PB’s were achieved on the night as well as a host of A times, with Anna O’Donoghue making the A time in the 100 back and 200 free, while Madeleine Mitchell and Darragh Hanrahan took their A times in the 100 breaststroke. In the 200 freestyle, Emma Kennelly, Alannah Blacoe and Keela Mulhall all made their A time.
In the girls 100 Backstroke event, there were superb swims from Jennifer Holland who won bronze in the B Grade U11 category, Emily Kavanagh took the U12-13 bronze in the B grade category while Sadhbh Hannon won silver in the U15 category in the C grade category.
In the second event of the evening, the 100 breaststroke, there was excellent racing from Isabel Gibbs and Laura O’Neill who both won gold with B grade swims in the U11 and U13 events. In the U11 race, Freya Murphy took silver in the C grade category and Alannah Blacoe won Bronze in the B grade category.
In the boys Breastroke event, Zak Rather and Cillian Walsh took gold medals home with Zak winning the U11 event in the B grade category and Cillian winning the C grade event in the U12-13 category. Liam Kilkenny won silver in the boys U11 B grade event while Dave Doorly came second in the U11 C grade category.
Other super performances were achieved in the girls 200 Freestyle event with Emily Kavanagh taking gold in the U13 event in the C grade category. There were more wins for Madeline Mitchell, (U11, 2nd/B Grade), Laura O’Neill, (U13, 2nd/B Grade), Sadhbh Hannon (U15, 2nd/C Grade) and Nell Mahdi (U13, 3rd/B Grade).
The boys rounded off a fantastic night of achievements with a gold for Zak Rather in the U11 B grade category and two third place wins for Rory Melody (U11, 3rd/B Grade) and Cillian Walsh (U13, 3rd/B Grade).
