Galway SC Seniors show promise at the Irish Nationals!
The Galway SC Senior swimmers had a positive return at the Irish Long Course Nationals held at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin from the 6-9th April.
Leading the positive performances & in a promising welcome to top form were Sarah Kelly who won silver in the Open Women’s 200 Butterfly & also made finals in the 50 & 100 Butterfly & 400 Freestyle.
Other Senior & Junior finalists included Aoife Leahy (50 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle & 200 Backstroke), Isabelle Gibbs (50,100 & 200 Backstroke), Fionn Duffy (100/200 Butterfly, 100 Breaststroke & 200/400 IM), Mitchell Wilson (100Backstroke), Aoife Shorten (200IM), Ailbhe Mulhall (200Fly), Keela Mulhall (100 Freestyle), while PB performances & solid meet swims were achieved by Joseph Doorly, Brian O’Farrell, Tim Keogh & Alison Gibbs.
Warm congratulations also goes to Isabelle Gibbs who in the 100 Backstroke set a time of 1.06.70 achieving the 2017 European Youth Olympic time set standard which are to be held in Gyor, Hungary in July.
This concluded a transitional Nationals meet for GSC swimmers to build on & GSC would like to extend sincere thanks to all the Team staff for supporting the team during a very busy four days of racing & also a BIG thank you to all the GSC volunteers who did a brilliant job in their officials duties supporting the smooth running of the event.
