Galway SC retain the Gerry Ryan Cup for a second year!
Congratulations to the Galway SC swimmers who competed at the Gerry Ryan Memorial long course in Limerick on the 2nd/3rd of February.
The team was in fine form over the weekend, winning the Gerry Ryan Cup for the second year in a row while achieving 143PB’s and 46 podium places.
There was more success for Keena Walsh who broke two new Connacht Records in the U17 and Senior 400 IM as well as Niamh Melody who qualified for the Connacht Squad in the 100 backstroke, as well as multiple new qualifying Division 1 and 2 times.
In the U11 age group, there were top performances from Max Kolcow who won 5 gold medals, in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200IM, 100 backstroke and a silver in the 100 freestyle.
Sophie Moran made a mark for the U11 girls with 4 gold medals, in the 200 Backstroke, 400 freestyle, 200 IM and 100 backstroke as well as a silver in the 200 freestyle.
Fionn Duffy had a great meet winning a gold medal in the 50m butterfly, 3 silver medals in the 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and a bronze in the 50m freestyle.
There were also medals for Keela Mulhall who came second in the 50m backstroke as did Cillian Blacoe who won silver in the boys race and a silver medal win for Roisin Finn in the 400 freestyle event.
There were bronze medal wins for Darragh Hanrahan, who came third in the 50m breaststroke and Isobelle Gibbs who came third in the 50m backstroke.
In the U15 age-group, there were a number of top performances at the event, with Kate Kavanagh racing to a double gold, in the 50m and the 200m backstroke.
Niamh Melody won gold in the 100m backstroke, qualifying for a place on the Connacht Squad in the event, and two silvers in the 50m backstroke and the 200m backstroke.
Andrew Moore won gold in the 200m breaststroke and two bronze medals, in the 400m freestyle race and the 2oom IM.
Making the podium four times, Ruth Keogh took home four silvers for Galway, in the 100m freestyle, the 400m freestyle, the 50m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.
In the Open category, GSC swimmers carried on their winning ways with Keena Walsh winning three gold medals, in the 400m freestyle, 200m IM & 400IM and won bronze in the 100 freestyle.
There were also gold medals for Dairne Ryan in the 100m freestyle and Oisin Duffy in the 200 fly.
There was a silver medal for Ellen Leahy in the 100m breaststroke who went on to win another two bronze medals in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, while Kristiana Hristeva won two bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and the 50m breaststroke. Kevin McGlade added another bronze to the GSC medals with a podium place finish in the 100m freestyle.
