Galway SC produce positive performances at the Connacht Age-Groups!
At the recent Smyths Toys sponsored Connacht Age-Groups, Galway Swimming Club swimmers produced positive performances at the annual regional age-group championships.
Over the weekend of swimming, the Galway SC team achieved 127 PB’s from 173 swims, 66 top three podium positions, two new Irish Age-Group QT’s from Molly O’Sullivan (U13/200IM) & Thomas O’Connor (U14/200/400Free), six new Division 2 Q.T’s from Eve Quane (U11/200 Breaststroke), Liam Smyth (U11/200Backstroke & 400Free), Sinead Walsh (U11/100,200Breaststroke & 400 Free), Owen Moore (U11/400Free), Ruby Murphy (U11/100Backstroke) & Alannah Blacoe (U11/100Backstroke).
On Day 1 the first event of the meet, the 200 Backstroke proved a great start for Galway SC with podium places for Niamh Melody (2nd/U13), Kate Finn (1st/U14), Kate Kavanagh (3rd/U14), Katie McKnight (2nd/U15) & Kristiana Hristeva (2nd/U16) & Daniel Scully (3rd/200Backstroke).
The second event on Day 1 the 100 Breaststroke, provided podium places for Alex McFarland (2nd/U14), Kristiana Hristeva (3rd /U16) & Andrew Moore (3rd/U14) & Oisin Duffy (1st/U15).
The third event for the girls, the 400 Freestyle produced podium places for Sinead Walsh (3rd/U11), Alex McFarland (1st/U14) & Kate Kavanagh (3rd/U14).
In the corresponding third event for the boys the 200IM, there were podium finishes for Bryan O’Sullivan (3rd/U14), Oisin Duffy (1st/U15), David O’Sullivan (1st/U16), Conor Smyth (2nd/U16) & Richard Murphy (3rd/U16).
In the first event of the afternoon session, the 400IM there was top three places for Bryan O’Sullivan (1st/U14), Thomas O’Connor (2nd/U14), Oisin Duffy (1st/400IM), David O’Sullivan (1st/U16) & Richard Murphy (2nd/U16). In the girls 400IM, there were podium places for Kate Finn (2nd/U14) & Emer Claffey (3rd/U14).
In the 100 Freestyle, podium places were achieved in the Boys category by Joseph Doorly (3rd/U12), Bryan O’Sullivan (3rd/U14), Oisin Duffy (2nd/U15), David O’Sullivan (1st/U16) & Conor Smyth (2nd/U16). In the Girls category, podium places were achieved by Alex McFarland (2nd/U14), Kate Finn (3rd/U14), Katie McKnight (3rd/U15) & Kristiana Hristeva (3rd/U16).
In the next event the 200 Fly, there were podium finishes for David O’Connor (2nd/U12), Conor Snowdon (3rd/U14), Molly O’Sullivan (3rd/U13) & Emer Claffey (2nd/U14) and in the final individual event of the day Tim Keogh placed 1st in the U12 1500 Free.
Bringing a close to Day 1 the 4X50 Medley relays brought more medals with the U12 Girls finishing 2nd, the U12 Boys 2nd, the U14 Girls 1st, the U14 Boys 2nd, the U16 Girls 2nd & the U16 Boys 1st.
On Day 2 the first event of the day the 200 Breaststroke brought top three places for Tim Keogh (2nd/U12), Andrew Moore (2nd/U14), Sinead Carey (3rd/U12) & Kristiana Hristeva (1st/U16).
In the 100 Backstroke Bryan O’Sullivan finished 3rd in the boys U14 category, Kate finshed 1st in the U14 girls, Kate Kavanagh finished 2nd in same U14 category & Kristiana Hristeva finished 2nd in the U16 category.
In the boys 400 Freestyle, there were podium finishes for Thomas O’Connor (3rd /U14) & positive PB swims from Harry McGrogan, Liam Smyth & Owen Moore.
In the Girls 200IM there were top three places for Sinead Carey (3rd/U12) & Kate Finn (3rd/U14) & there were positive PB performances from Ciara Shaughnessy, Roisin Finn, Sophie Moran, Lauren Walsh, Sinead Walsh & Eve Quane.
In the 100 Fly, Bryan O’Sullivan finished 2nd/U14 & there were positive PB performances from Conor Snowdon, Daniel Scully & Emer Claffey.
In the 200 Freestyle, Sinead Carey placed 1st in the U12 girls, Andraya Scully finished 3rd in the U13 girls, Kate Finn finished & Alex McFarland finished 1st & 3rd in the U14 girls respectively & Kristiana Hristeva finished 2nd in the U16 category.
In the last individual event of the meet the 800 Freestyle, Bryan O’Sullivan & Andrew Moore finished 1st & 2nd respectively & other positive performances with PB’S & first time swims were achieved by Andraya Scully, Sinead Carey & Molly O’ Sullivan.
Bringing a close to Day 2 of the Smyths Toys sponsored Connacht Age-Groups, the 4X50 Freestyle relays brought much excitement with GSC making it a clean sweep in the first four events winning the U12 & U14 boys & girls categories & a superb way to finish a very successful meet for the team.
