Galway SC host top B/C grade meet
GSC’s younger swimmers had a chance to shine at the B/C Gala hosted by GSC on 3rd March in Leisureland.
With 48 PB’s on the night, there were some good successes for our younger swimmers who competed in the 100 breaststroke, 50m/100m Butterfly and the mixed medley relays.
A fantastic night in the pool led to two new A times for David Doorly and Tom O’Sullivan in the boys U11 boys 50m butterfly event.
In the B events, Orla Gallagher came third in the girls 50m butterfly, while in the U11 boys event, Darragh Hanrahan won gold and Cillian Jordan claimed a third place podium finish in the same event.
There was more success for GSC in the 100m Breaststroke with B podium finishes for Jennifer Holland, who came 2nd in the U11 category while Evan O’Boyle claimed the silver medal in the boy’s event. In the U13 age group, Jack Brennan came second in his race.
In the C grade 100m Breaststroke category, there were excellent performances from Cillian Jordan (1st, U11), Tom Scully (2nd, U11) and Rory Melody (3rd, U11). Jake Begley also claimed a gold medal in the U11 boys butterfly event.
Rounding off a great night with the medley relay racing, there was a gold medal for the U11 GSC A Team of Rory Melody, Alison Gibbs, Cillian Jordan and Ailbhe Mulhall.
GSC’s U11 C Team of David Doorly, Alison Walsh, Tom O’Sullivan and Aifric Day claimed a third place podium finish on the night.
The U13 A team added another bronze medal to the GSC tally, with a great third place finish from Jack Brennan, Lauryn McKnight, Dominic Cahill and Lucy Kavanagh.
This concluded a very successful night for the all the swimmers from the club and GSC would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the competition run so smoothly and efficiently.
