Galway SC finish season in style at Laser BC’er
With numerous PB’s on the day, GSC’s younger swimmers closed their swimming season in style at the Laser B/C Gala, which was held at the Kingfisher in NUIG on Saturday 14th June.
Our swimmers did not disappoint on the day with two A times achieved at NUIG from Zara O’Toole in the U11 girls 100m backstroke and Tom Kavanagh in the U13 boys 100m backstroke.
In the B Grade podiums, there was racing success in the U11 events from Alex Naughton with a first place finish in the 100m backstroke and Aaron Burke in the 200m freestyle. Tom Kavanagh gained his A time in the U13 racing while Eoin O’Malley came first in the U13 200m freestyle event.
There were second place medals in the U11 racing from Rachel Dempsey in the 100m backstroke and Alex Naughton in the 50m fly while U13 GSC swimmers Roisin Vaughan and Eoin O’Malley took second place in the boys and girls 100m butterfly event.
Aaron Burke took third place in the U11 50 butterfly event while Gavin Dempsey claimed 3rd place in the U13 category for his 200m freestyle.
In the C grade podiums, there were five first place finishes for GSC. In the U13 girls events, there was gold for Roisin Vaughan in the 100m backstroke and Eimear Walsh in the 100m fly while in the U11 racing, there was gold for Josh Mahon in the 50m fly, Rachel Dempsey and Eidhne Kennedy for the 200m freestyle.
Eidhne Kennedy claimed a second medal in his 50m butterfly swimming to a silver medal finish while Ellen Kennedy (U11) and Alan Shaughnessy (U13) claimed silver in their 200m freestyle. There were bronze medal swims from Andrea Shaughnessy and Eidhne Kennedy in the U1 100m back, while Naoise McDonnell came third in the U11 50m butterfly.
