Galway makes great start to the season in Castlebar!
The first A grade meet of the year was held in Castlebar on 9th October with 21 GSC swimmers competing in the three events scheduled – the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle.
It was a very successful meet for the club, with 38 PB’s being achieved including 13 top three podium finishes by the team.
In the first event, the boys 400 freestyle, Joseph Doorly claimed the first gold medal for Galway in the U11 category.
Galway carried on with the medal wins in the second event of the day, the 100 Backstroke, with great performances throughout the various age groups.
Sophie Moran picked up the gold in the U11 100 backstroke event while Joseph Doorly took the Gold in the boys U11 race.
Other podium finishes in the 100 back were achieved by Roisin Finn (3rd/U11), Max Kolcow (2nd/U11), Molly O’Sullivan (3rd/U13), Niamh Melody (2nd/U15) and Conor Snowdon (3rd/U15).
In the girls U11 400 freestyle event, Galway took all three podium places with Roisin Finn winning gold, Sophie Moran taking the silver and Lauren Walsh claiming the bronze.
In the last individual event of the meet, the 100 breaststroke, there were podium places for Joseph Doorley (3rd/U11) and Lauren Walsh (2nd/U11).
The performances in Castlebar marked an excellent start to the season and Galway SC would like to thank team coach Ger Keogh and team managers Teresa Moran and Mike Walsh who supported & focused the team superbly during the day.
